Historic costume simulation

ZiThe progress of digital technology has brought about many changes. In the world of fashion, 3D apparel CAD (computer-aided design) is attracting attention as the most promising product which reduces time and cost in the design process through virtual simulation.

Using this technology, this study aims to create accurate digital reproduction of costumes from historical sources to explore the possibility of developing them as online museum exhibits. It is expected that digital costumes may help museums overcome conservation and managerial constraints, stimulating democratisation of knowledge. Especially, digitally reproduced garments are expected to give new possibility to closed or damaged costumes which are lying in storage in the dark.
